DOGVILLE - Analysis Part 3 - Forgiveness

3.1 - Sixth Act - In which Dogville shows teeth.

This title is nonetheless very clear as others, but this time more cruel, as the images that follow. This act begins with the sixth Grace teaching the children of Chuck, as usual. Only this time, Jason has an attitude of defiance, prompting Grace so she hit him, but without success, saying it threatens her that if she does not give spankings, says that his parents had done. Thus, Grace agrees to give her spankings for it to shut up. After this, reaches the home Chuck saying that the cop is in the village and that the saved again. Sure of himself, sees in it a good reward for their attitude and forces her to have sex with him saying he wants her respect. This moment is the first time the cruelest in this movie, this action is seen at the same time that we see all people, including children of Tom and Chuck, on the street. This event is of great intensity, coming up to be too raw, using the lack of walls to further accentuate the dramatic side. This drama is further emphasized by the lack of continuity in the assembly, with their big plans, general plans with great depth of field and plans sequence. These are made by the director exercising the function of the camera in all his films.

3.2 - Seventh act - in which Grace finally had enough of Dogville, leaves the village and back to see the light of day.

This act begins with a more provocative act, this time by Vera, Chuck's wife and mother of Jason, Grace had beaten child. So this confronts him saying that his son told him that she had been beaten, Grace confirms this and says it deserved, but apologizes and says it does not happen again. Grace is thus prohibited from taking care of children of this village.
In addition to this provocative act takes the entire village committed their provocations. Chuck continued to abuse Grace, whenever they get apples to the orchard until Mr.Mckay did not measure the distance between him and Grace, and every day went further with his hand on the legs of this. It seems finally that the sense of humanity in this village came to a head.
Even with the reduction in his salary, Grace managed to gather the seven dolls she had bought at the store. Martha, Vera and Liz go to Grace's house and confront her with the fact that this involved walking with her husband of Vera, Chuck, without even knowing that this is abusing her, resolved to punish Grace, from deciding that each doll purchased the store with his salary. It was more than a loss, these dolls represent their connection with Dogville, because everything was so far received from Dogville. Vera says if Grace did not cry as she breaks her dolls, she stops. Not so for the first time Grace desalmadamente cries for the loss of everything that represented happiness in this village. My understanding is made here a metaphor for the village. These dolls representing each family of this village are destroyed here, right here assume that all representations of this village have been destroyed so far to Grace. So your idea of an ideal village to live, here is destroyed while the figures representing this idea of comfort are too. So it decides to abandon the city, with the help of Tom This tells you that the father will lend money to make ends Ben Grace, for this to take out of town in his van, which transports apples. Once everything is combined with Tom and Ben. The next morning Grace meets Ben and embarks on his van. Hidden among the apples, is invaded by a moment of joy, hoping to get rid of Dogville. At the moment when the truck is made a start traveling into the approximation of the van. There is Grace, in the middle of the apples, the truck and walking it waits until Ben enters the back joining Grace, as is shown in in figure 5.

                                         Figure 5

This tells you that there is police on the road and that the level of fear of being caught increased, given that she should pay him more. But the fact is that Grace has given him everything he had into money, so Ben offers you that this will give your body and so he would not pay someone else to do. This says no, but Ben compels it. Again the natural ambition of mankind is represented here in the cruelest manner possible. For though he had paid for this trip and paid with his own body, this back to Dogville, returning it to the city. This time it's like a traveling removal and we realize that we are back in town. Here all the inhabitants to expect, because Tom had met with other people the day before, telling what happened. Ben took just to get money and the body of Grace. With everything back in town again, but this time the situation worsens. All people build a kind of mechanism "anti-leak", which consisted of Moses on the leash with a bell attached to one long chain, linked with a tire iron so that it could not run away again, as we see in image 6.

                                           Figure 6

3.3 - Eighth act - in which there is a meeting where the truth is told and Tom party (only to return later).

This eighth act, beginning with Tom telling Grace that the fact that it has been attached to a leash due to the fact that the accused, when all the accused him of stealing his own father. The fact is that this accusation before Tom was true, but this excuse to Grace saying that he did for the other people do not realize the connection that both have. This justification without any logical sense does not preclude returning Grace to forgive him. This fact does not see evil in people, unlike Tom who wields the evil people.
Thus, even attached to an iron wheel, which hindered the movement too, Grace continued to work for all people and even at night, when at home, Grace is abused by most of the male inhabitants. For it is attached.  The addition of drama and torture of this film is remarkable. The inhumanity on the part of the human being is increasingly visible and the contrast between faith and lack of it is highlighted even more.
Having said that Tom does not know what to do with your illustration, so Grace proposes that the full truth about those people. Tom invites all residents once again to the church and confronted more than ever faith and lack of faith: Grace and Dogville, respectively. Here Tom back to his role as priest to counter the different perspectives. As the narrator says: "Tom had set the stage, now it was up to Grace to swim or sink." The meeting begins and Grace says everything that had come to be arranged, these in turn denies saying she's lying. When seen against the wall by the inhabitants, Tom tells them that they are not to be civilized. And in fact are not and Tom is losing control over your illustration, because it had done in the best shape and had no notion that human beings be so cruel. Losing control or not this continues, go to Grace's house and tells him that he chose her and that it is time to devote to them. Grace tells him no, because he thinks the point of view of his love, it would be wrong. Tom accuses her of being selfish and not reciprocate the fact that he has chosen. The Grace that answers that Tom is afraid to be as human as those who abuse. One more you see, just a dialogue, Lars Von Trier accuses the human being inhuman. Tom encountering such an accusation feels intrigued and will wander Dogville, realizing that the same accusation was true. He was no longer a human being like everyone else, was not entirely able to do with the attitude that human change is therefore not able to himself. That said, the night falls on Dogville and a new day is born, this very strange day for Grace, as this had fallen asleep and had failed to work and nobody said anything, however, said that it had the day off. Grace is Tom who tells him that he had the inspiration to write a book, inspiration is taken from the illustration itself which made throughout the film. These are really funny dialogues, Lars Von Trier does not seem to write anything in vain, all the dialogues contain large critical, step in this example, it is somewhat ironic: "The people of this city surprised me more, I have up to review some concepts and know how to hate. Last night when I returned and saw you sleeping with an air so sweet, I felt inspired and wrote the first chapter of a story. A story about a village, imagine where I seek inspiration. But you have not got a name, "to which Grace responds:" Dogville Why not? "Tom:" No apparent, the name must be universal. Many writers make this mistake ... ". As I said, this dialogue is somewhat ironic but the fact is that these are also dialogues, which embellish the films of Lars Von Trier. Not only to yourself here is ironic, almost speaking in first person, as does a great critique of the film seen as an industry.
So after this dialogue is very clear that Tom did the village and Grace his subjects, for the construction of its first chapter. The fact is that it manages the village and Grace, to a better understanding of the human being, opposing the faith and unbelief, but in the end, afraid of his own identity is so similar to the human being who had discovered with this illustration. I think it is at this point that Lars Von Trier wanted to get with this film. He gets to enter this dialogue, the character of Tom, so that the viewer is made clear that every human being is equal, we all falter, with faith or lack thereof, to himself. Thus ends the eighth and final act of this third part, where forgiveness by Grace is here broken. Five days had passed since the last meeting and it seemed that the village was waiting for something or someone. Grace confronts Tom saying that this had been stupid to call the gangsters. Tom had told him they had laid out the card that gave the gangsters, but in fact he did not, and was waiting for their arrival since the five days and therefore had already finished the first chapter of a story, because this provided that all ends up taking Grace with gangsters and giving him a reward, perhaps to publish your book? But the fact is that this could not happen and so begins the imbalance.
