DOGVILLE - Analysis Part 2 - Goodness

2.1 - Room act - Happy times in Dogville

Grace be accepted after the city seems to live in happy times and this continues to help every person, going through each house all day. So she runs through the village to help people. This time, begins to receive a salary, and was rebuilt a house for her to inhabit. With earning money, Grace begins to buy some dolls that are for sale in the shop of Martha. These dolls are very important for Grace, is like a kind of puppet with a comparison of each family of this village. For these are seven and the village is composed of seven families. Everything seems to be going well until one day the police comes to post a paper on the wall, which in substance says Grace look. The village is restless and decide to have another meeting in the church attended by all residents. It is here decided that it would remain the same.

2.2 - Fifth Act - July 4, finally

It is a happy day in this village, and only Grace lacks four dolls to complete his collection of seven. The whole village prepares dinner on 4 July, U.S. Independence Day, as Tom says to Grace, saying that he is in love with her. This returns saying the same. So at dinner, are all the people together and celebrate not only Independence Day but also the fact that Grace be there and that made the village. Until once again the police returned to Dogville to post a sign, but this time, this poster says Grace is visited by a bank robbery. However, this assault would have been the two weeks, but it certainly would be working as usual in Dogville and had not absent. So this statement was false, but even knowing this, all think they are going through a very big risk by Grace hiding in the village. So they proposed that a meeting where Grace to become controlled by the bell that will ring every half hour and this must every half hour to move to another house, past the house of every inhabitant, twice day. It is not without meaning that they feel breaking the law, but the fact is, what is the advantage to this village is Grace worked more? That made this the less infringing? I think the idea here that we can draw is that since they are breaking the law, receive more in return. So in my opinion, Lars Von Trier is more a critique of the natural human ambition. Do not be left alone here, these people also suggest that Grace go to receive less in your paycheck. Grace with his following of faith, is in agreement with these schemes, since these people are doing you a favor. It would then be your act of kindness by accepting this act to the best system to have? This would not be a kind of slavery?

This whole idea of ​​Grace work harder and get less gone part of the whole village, but most of Tom as I mentioned, plays a priest. So, Tom continues with his illustration, wielding this village and Grace. But what it lacks this character is an act of faith, for this character, unlike Grace, does not contain an action of faith. When I mentioned previously that Lars Von Trier in his films it referred to the faith and the lack of it, I think this is a good example, one character with Grace following Tom faith and character with a lack of faith. I say lack of faith on the part of Tom, because it breaks with all segments of faith, like hope, kindness and forgiveness. Tom, in turn, makes Grace feel that the village and the village for her, but in a cruel, using and manipulating the other characters.

After these decisions, Grace works twice the normal and begins to despair, since hardly has time to rest. The way Lars Von Trier again uses the lack of scenery is fascinating. Throughout the film can have a depth of field so large that sometimes we can see the whole village at the same time, though each is in their homes, as can be seen in figure 4.

 But the fact is that this time it shows how Grace is busy with a plan bitten sequence, where Grace comes constantly moving from house to house, like a kind of animation. Grace begins to be treated differently by the whole population. One day, while helping Chuck in picking apples, it tries to kiss her, but Grace refuses and this confronts him with the fact that she did not like it. And then follow up with more faith apologizes, saying he is right and should not have acted that way. So Grace is the goodness of forgiveness and begins the third part.
