Synopsis: This is a neorealist fiction, filmed in Italy in the 40s. The actors are the residents of the village Acitrezza own, where they use a dialect, not Italian, expessar for their suffering. This whole movie revolves around the unequal societies experienced this season, where the fishermen work to keep their families and receive a pittance of their employers. Form is thus a story of rebellion and misery.

Theme of the film: Through a fictional work, Visconti makes a sort of documentary, relatanto the lives of fishermen, as an example of social injustice.
