LA TERRA TREMA - Part 1 - Injustice

"The facts of this film take place in Italy, precisely in Sicily in the town of Acitrezza, near Catania. It's the old story of exploitation of man by man. The houses, streets, boats and people are Acitrezza. All players were chosen among the people: fishermen, farmers, builders and merchants. They use their dialect to express suffering and hope, for the Italian in Sicily is not the language spoken by the poor. "Starting from this prior summary, this is a neorealist work of one of the most respected filmmakers in this movement, Luchino Visconti. Being a neorealist work, your biggest goal is to represent an unequal situation and unpleasant it was lived by people who live in Acitrezza.
At the beginning of the film, we are shown the church, followed by an overview towards the sea, as if the Church observe the sea. Ring the bell. This alerts the arrival of the fishermen's village, not only now but throughout the film, getting to create tension in the viewer.
After this presentation of Acitrezza men: on the day of them and their ways of working, we are shown the other hand, the women's side, always dressed in black, that while their men are at sea working to keep the hunger away from their families, these, anguished wait for the bell.
Thus, the bell is represented us as the subject of separation of the narrative. The bell is rung every time you go fishing, or return from the sea, assuming either a change of space, as the feelings of the characters, as both women feel despair when men go to sea, as they feel relief when touching the Bell brings them back home.
The main male characters of the Valastro family, we are presented through a framework enjoyed by women,    while they expect their men back from the sea, arrange the miserable homes. The picture is looked at by women as a representation of the fear that something bad to happen to his men, as has happened before, according to the narrator: "They think of the grandfather, the brother and the father who has not returned one morning from the sea" .
That said, the sea is like a main character, of which the other characters depend and fear. As Lucia says looking at the picture of the family: "The sea is bitter," once again demonstrated how much the sea is important in the lives of these people, not only as a source of livelihood but also as a representation of an imminent danger to the fishermen.
After this presentation of men and women of the village, is presented to us by long and general plans, a whole generation, from children to seniors, working on boats, selling the freshly caught fish. Because their work is not just about fishing, but also to sell and prepare the boats and nets for fishing the next day. Not only that, the expenditures out of their own pockets. These images, which could not fail to contain the church contrasted to the bottom, again as a source of observation. (Annex 1)

After twelve hours of hard work, these fishermen return home where their family women await them, bringing only the bare minimum for their own needs. For the fact that the boats are the bosses, makes them able to buy the fish for an absurd price, "All costs fall on the shoulders of the fishermen as wholesalers enrich with no effort, anything by buying fish caught with so much sweat" .
Despite the unstable life they lead, the smile on their faces does not go away and visit the girls' windows, causes men to be distracted in search of hope may one day marry and flee the world of misery in which they live. Hope by girls, is also demonstrated by the long plane and centered on the girl who is the window as a metaphor, a wait forever. (Annex 2)

Never lose hope, there `N Toni, a young man belonging to the family Valastro which states:" Do you think that the leaders care? "," We are dumb. Only serve for heavy work. "" We should sell the fish in Catania instead of enriching them. " Accusing the oldest being acomudados, as his grandfather would say: "For 70 years I think the same way, and everything went right. N'toni, listen to their elders. As the old saying: the strength of youth and the wisdom of age. "In search of a change, N'toni proposes that the young fish to sell to the bosses and not the older ones, who accused to comply with the prices charged .
Ready for another day of work, these men will once again touch the bell, to the sea: "Even with a heavy heart, the evening will have to fish", but this time the fish would otherwise be sold as I said earlier. Already on the docks, young people try to negotiate the price of fish, but without success. The boats do not belong to them, just do not have to be assumed. Helpless and angry, throw the fish overboard and the two young Valastro, N'toni and Cola, and the leaders of this protest, arrested by the authorities will, eventually being released a few days later.
Disgusted with this situation, N'toni proposes that all fishermen to make a loan to the bank, so they can buy their own boats and sell the fish in the market, thus depending on their employers: "They need us." No success with the public, N'toni convinces the family and make a empréstismo where mortgage the house and buy a boat, starting here the second part of the movie, where everything changes.
The first part consisted of the presentation of characters, as I said earlier. The community is united, replecta of hope in the midst of his suffering and equality within the own inequality. The plans are long, showing sorrow and bitterness, the village is seen as a whole, where men and women do not have any work that unites them. There is a kind of separation between sex, as if the woman lived to man's comfort, when you get home. The traditional sound that encompasses the first part, I believe sung by the characters own, is seen as a kind of outburst.
