A journey from the prehistoric past of our ancestors, when a group of monkeys finds a mysterious monolith and it obtains knowledge that result in the evolution of man, until the space colonized by humans in 2001. The discovery of another monolith on the moon, coming from an area near Jupiter, leads to the release of an expedition led by astronaut David Bowman to investigate the origin of the extra-terrestrial object. When the mission is endangered by HAL 9000, the supercomputer that controls the spacecraft, Bowman will have to beat the machine before traveling to the place of origin of the remarkable object.
